This painting was made to set focus on equality in ice hockey. Hooking is the penalty you get in Ice Hockey if you hold someone back, and so preventing them to accomplish what they try to do. Equality is of course important in all sports, but this was made especially for #BIKdamer (Bergen Icehockey club Women). There is a difference in rules for women and men who play hockey in the top series. The women have to wear full protective faceshield, while the men can choose. The men can body tackle while the women is not allowed to play rough. That speaks to structural equality problems in the sports, on top of that the women seems to way to often be the last priority in terms of deciding when they get training hours and wardrobe facilities. On top of that the women of Bergen ice hockey who play in the top series actually gathers empty bottles to pay for their travels, gear and so on. Needless to say the men have a quite higher budget.
A week before the International Women’s Day(IWD) 8.march 2023 this first appeared on the home arena of Bergen Icehockey club, then it appeared a couple of nights before IWD on Torgalmenningen in Bergen sentrum where the official marking and celebration of 8.march was held. The week of IWD you could also see the painting on a 120*160cm canvas exhibited in the windows of Underground Gallery in Kaigaten, Bergen Sentrum. After there was a ceremony and the canvas was donated to #BIKdamer.
Later it was announced that it would be released as a print, where the profits from the sales will go directly to #BIKdamer to support them and help them doing what they love.
The print is a 3-layer screenprint, printed by the artist self on high quality artpaper from Somerset. At size 38*56cm it is reasonably priced at 990,- NOK so that everyone that wants could buy it to support them.
